Welcome to The Smart Investor

Hello and welcome to The Smart Investor,

It is sometimes said that as one door closes, another opens.

So, we are throwing open the doors of The Smart Investor to people who share our belief in the merits of investing in wonderful companies for the long term, and enjoying the benefits of that old-fashioned concept called compounding.

We hope that this will be the start of a strong long-term relationship.

When the doors closed on The Motley Fool Singapore, my team and I felt that our work in Singapore was far from complete….

…. It was not the end. It was not even the beginning of the end. But it was the end of the beginning.

When we started out in Singapore seven years ago, our aim was a simple one – to show that long-term investing does work….

…. I think we have demonstrated that there is more than a grain of truth in our assertion. Those who put their trust in my team and me have not been disappointed….

…. because the stock market is a relocation centre where money is moved from the active and uninformed to the patient and enlightened.

If we can find good shares, then they could reward you many times over, regardless of what the market might be doing.

Investing is more than just jumping in and out of the stock market on a whim and a prayer. There are much better things for us to do with our time.

But it does mean that we must spend time looking for good companies. And at The Smart Investor we will show you some of the companies that we like so much that we are prepared to put our own money into them.

But there’s more….

…. It also means that we need to combine those good companies in a meaningful way that will deliver stable income and growth for us. So, we will show you how we manage our portfolios.

And just one more thing. If you would like to know what we think about what is going on in the world, please sign up to our Free Get Smart newsletter, for a Smarter look at investing. Click here to get started.
